This home decor trend is more than just another viral TikTok trend, A-list celebrities have even been participating in this new trend. However, just because A-list celebrities are participating in this trend, does not mean it is exclusive to one type of person. You most definitely do not have to be on the coast or a grandmother to participate in this trend either! Read on to learn more about this trend and how you can implement it into your new home.

What is Coastal Grandma?

Imagine you are walking up a stone path and see a picket fence leading up to a cottage on the seaside. The gate to the fence opens and everyone is welcomed to come in! That is what coastal grandma is. It is not just for a specific kind of person. It can often be compared to the opposite aesthetic of the television series, Euphoria. It is often referred to as an aspirational lifestyle, as Nancy Meyers embodies coastal grandmother in her movies, especially “Something’s Gotta Give.”

Some people often get confused saying they cannot afford the lifestyle of a coastal grandmother. However, that is just a fantasy! You do not need to have a trust fund to decorate your home as you please. Whether it is just playing a coastal grandmother playlist while cooking dinner in the kitchen or slowly renovating your home, there are ways to make this affordable. You do not have to spend big bucks on anything if you can find a dupe somewhere else.

Coastal Grandma Home Decor

When it comes to decorating your home like the coastal grandma trend, it’s about layering comfort with sophistication, making your home cozy and chic.

Couches: You should at least have a white couch to start to create your coastal grandmother look. Having a neutral-colored couch will allow you to use that as a base for decorating your home.

Flowers: You should invest in some flowers–hydrangeas are a coastal grandmother’s favorite–for your living room and/or kitchen. If you cannot keep flowers alive, you can also invest in some fake ones!

Ginger Jars: Another huge component for decorations are ginger jars. These are timeless pieces that can be passed down through families. Amazon has many affordable options!

Candles: A part of being a coastal grandmother is doing so without the intention to please men. It is about being able to buy a $70 unscented pillar candle, or finding a dupe on Amazon. You can also find scented candles in glass jars that will fit the theme.

White: As mentioned prior about the couch, white should be your base color. Building off with neutrals and various textures makes your home cozy like a coastal grandmother would want.

Cake Stands: Elegant yet cozy kitchens are cluttered with hanging pots and pans and even cake stands! You can find the perfect cake stand for your cozy kitchen on Amazon!

Natural Texture: An important aspect of coastal grandma is natural texture. Whether that is in lamps, tables, or chairs, there are various ways to include this in your home decor. This is a common use for decor in beach houses.

Celebrity Sightings!

As mentioned, many celebrities have embraced this new trend. Some have even embodied this trend before it was even going viral on TikTok.

Anne Hathaway: Anne Hathaway explains how she was a coastal grandmother before TikTok was even invented. She does not want this trend to end.

Selena Gomez: Selena Gomez has been sporting the coastal grandmother trend long before it was viral as well. Part of being a coastal grandmother involves cooking which is perfect for Selena because she just started her own cooking show.

Oprah Winfrey: Because Oprah can keep her luscious garden alive while wearing her cozy knits, she is the definition of a coastal grandmother. However, she is not even a grandmother! This is a great example of how you can embody the trend while not being an actual grandmother on the coast.

Jennifer Lopez: She is one of the more recent celebrities to hop on the coastal grandma trend. She wore a long white linen dress on mothers day along with a chunky knit cardigan.
